Using slitless spectroscopy to study the kinematics of the planetary nebula population in M94
The planetary nebula populations of relatively nearby galaxies can beeasily observed and provide both a distance estimate and a tool withwhich dynamical information can be obtained. Usually the requisiteradial velocities are obtained by multi-object spectroscopy once theplanetary nebulae have been located by direct imaging. Here we report ona technique for measuring planetary nebula kinematics using thedouble-beam ISIS spectrograph at the William Herschel Telescope in anovel slitless mode, which enables the detection and radial velocitymeasurements to be combined into a single step. The results on our firsttarget, the Sab galaxy NGC 4736, allow the velocity dispersion of thestellar population in a disc galaxy to be traced out to fourscalelengths for the first time and are consistent with a simpleisothermal sheet model.

Vitesses radiales. Catalogue WEB: Wilson Evans Batten. Subtittle: Radial velocities: The Wilson-Evans-Batten catalogue.
We give a common version of the two catalogues of Mean Radial Velocitiesby Wilson (1963) and Evans (1978) to which we have added the catalogueof spectroscopic binary systems (Batten et al. 1989). For each star, when possible, we give: 1) an acronym to enter SIMBAD (Set ofIdentifications Measurements and Bibliography for Astronomical Data) ofthe CDS (Centre de Donnees Astronomiques de Strasbourg). 2) the numberHIC of the HIPPARCOS catalogue (Turon 1992). 3) the CCDM number(Catalogue des Composantes des etoiles Doubles et Multiples) byDommanget & Nys (1994). For the cluster stars, a precise study hasbeen done, on the identificator numbers. Numerous remarks point out theproblems we have had to deal with.
